At the Amgen 'Tour Of California' on Sat. 5/21/11 with Herbalife 24! It's the new line of all natural top of the line sports endurance products for the 24 hour athlete.

It was really fun since I've never done anything like this before and it was great being at Mt. Baldy. It felt like I was back home in Lake Tahoe......ahhh the Mountains and the Mountain air. There's nothing like it, someone even had a fire going. I love the smell of wood burning in a fire place.

Super fun day and people really noticed the difference of how well Prolong worked for them while they were cycling.

I was chosen to be on the Beta Testing team for Herbalife 24 too, I feel so lucky! I can't tell you how much easier skating and working out are. I can go 2 hours longer with out feeling fatigued, I love the hydrate, and I'm toned in new places I've never been before. Great nutrition is so easy when it's done right and Herbalife for sure figured it out, I wish I found it 10 years ago but better late than never.

Ultimate Boarder - Surf, Skate, Snow Triathalon

The 4th year of the Ultimate Boarder is in the can! First was snowboarding, then surfing and it's 3rd and final stop was in Cardiff-by-the-Sea with amazing skateboarding going off all day long!

I was the on-site Host for the day interviewing the athletes, along with commentators Jesse Fritsch and Brad J. And live announcer Sergie Ventura on the Mic keeping the crowd fired up!

The results are in and footage will be up here at ULTIMATE BOARDER.COM Chad Shetler just won for the 3rd time in a row and walked home $25,000 richer!!

Living in L.A. has led me to wearing multiple hats in my life. Life was simple as a professional skateboarder and then I started a clothing company in 2006 to inspire and empower the next generation of girls in action sports. We co-branded tops with Warner Bros. and Supergirl for 3 different Supergirl events, had distribution with VK Skate California's largest Distribution Company and had a rockin' team of World Cup female skateboarders.

Since the retail market took a big hit, my beloved clothing company SK8*GRL is now hibernating and awaiting to awaken as a bigger and better line of clothes to reach and inspire all girls. A TV series is written and ready to be put into the right hands and possibly be the next big hit for the youth looking for new and exciting entertainment.

As a TV Host in Action Sports and now getting more involved in the entertainment world, my eyes have opened to a whole new view of reality. I love acting and understanding myself better. Embracing different points of view, relationships, behaviors, and reactions. Exploring different parts of oneself helps to open up the soul to more empathy and love. I was very grateful to receive my SAG card for booking some featured parts on TV and a National Commercial. I am loving my adventure as a performer everyday and am really excited about growing and doing lots more work as a performer!

Battling chronic back pain, neck pain and knee pain from 18 years of skating and snowboarding had become something that I just thought was a normal part of life. When I first moved to L.A. I came across Health Coaching and Cellular Nutrition. After only 2 weeks on my nutrition program my physical pain was not there anymore. I didn't need to take ibuprofen all day long anymore. I, for the first time in well over 10 years, was pain free. My knees still make a lot of noise going up the stairs but no more pain. I improved my physique and lowered my body fat when I was eating organic everything before and thought I was very healthy. Sometimes you don't know how much better you can feel till you do. What a concept, I didn't have to live with pain the rest of my life.

I was so excited about how much better I felt and saw the amazing results of others, that now one of my hats is as a Health & Nutrition Coach. I get to help others look and feel their best! Nutrition Education and eating right makes all the difference in the world.

I want to share some awesome health results photos below here with you from coaches and clients at my Nutrition Club. Giving really is the best reward, especially when the reward is so life changing.

On September 24th, 25th and 26th, The Fourth Annual US Open of Beach Volleyball went off in Manhattan Beach, CA.

Karch Kiraly is spearheading the development of the US Open. He is working with USA Volleyball and the Elevation Group to professionally and successfully put on the program.

The US Open continues to grow towards its goal of becoming one of the largest Beach Volleyball tournaments in the nation, offering competition to players of all skill level from around the country. In 2009 the US Open grew to over 250 teams from over 25 states and 4 countries.

Karch is the only volleyball player in the world who is a 3-Time Olympic Gold Metalist and had the longest running professional career to date of almost 30 years. I had the opportunity to meet and interview him for ION Sports.com

I have to admit it was a childhood dream come true to meet him, since my first love was volleyball. I always wanted to be a professional volleyball player for years and years until the hard truth hit me......I'm super short!!

It was great to hear about his long and successful career and also talk about what he's doing now to inspire the youth to excel in volleyball through the US Open and the Wide Open Beach Volleyball series.

Dr. Luigi Gratton the VP of Nutrition Education was on hand to visit with guests and all of us Health Coaches. He's a very personable Dr. and offered us a wealth of information on nutrition and living a healthy and active lifestyle!

Last summer I met David Beckham as I was the skateboarder at their son's Birthday Party at a Skate Park. He's such and amazing person....very genuine and kind!

WHY PROTEIN IS SO IMPORTANT TO OUR LIVES

A Necessity For Every Body
Protein is an important component of every cell in the body! It is an organic compound, composed of 22 amino acids, otherwise known as the building blocks of life. Protein is stored in muscles and organs and the body utilizes it to build and repair tissues, as well as for the production of enzymes and hormones.
Proteins also make it possible for blood to carry oxygen throughout the body. Along with fat and carbohydrates, protein is a "macronutrient," meaning the body needs relatively large amounts of it. The Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences has concluded that our daily protein requirements should be 10% to 35% of our total caloric intake, with men needing slightly more than women. Generally, women need about 75-100 grams a day and men need even more. A lack of protein can cause loss of muscle mass, decreased immunity, as well as weakening of the heart and respiratory system.

How Protein Affects Your Weight
The widespread popularity of high-protein diets is due in large part to their ability to help manage hunger. When protein is absorbed, it sends a signal to the brain to decrease your hunger. Another benefit of protein is that it raises your resting metabolism by maintaining muscle mass. As we age, muscle mass decreases without exercise, so staying fit is a key to burning fat by keeping your metabolism high. Protein also leads to a much less rapid rise and fall of blood sugar and insulin, so you avoid the "sugar highs and lows" after eating sweets without adequate protein. Certain foods, however, provide a healthier resource for protein than others.

On March 27, the 4th Annual PacSun Clash Skateboard Event for 'Grind For Life' to raise money and awareness for people with cancer went off in a big way!

Mike Rogers is a two time cancer survivor and now travels and helps others with cancer to have fuller lives through skateboarding!

Tony Hawk, Andy MacDonald, Steve Caballero, PLG, Bucky Lasek and many more were there skating for a packed crowd!

Holly's KUSI News 'Action Sports Report' was at her favorite skate park the Encinitas YMCA.

Regardless of your ability, the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA provides a FUN and SAFE skateboarding experience. This morning, Holly talked with Chris Vrklan and her family. Her and her husband have 2 girls and 2 boys that range from 4 years old to 10 years old. They all play together and stay together! They skate, snowboard, go camping and always stick together as a family and support each other in their competitions and in learning new things.

Lots of pros practice here and it's always fun to watch! If you are interested in coming to the Encinitas YMCA Skate Park, they will be holding camps next week from Monday – Wednesday Nov. 23-25, with a Skate Camp on that Wednesday.
And they offer lessons throughout the whole year. If you would just like to come and skate the park open session are from 2:30 to 5:00 Monday through Friday with an extra session on Friday from 12:45 to 2:15. On the weekends you can come skate at the YMCA from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. It's time to get your skate on!!

Today Holly's KUSI News 'Action Sports Report' was at the Kearny Moto Park!

BMX is a fun and safe action sport for people of all ages! Statistics have proven that BMX racing is one of the safest of all sports today. Part of this is due to the mandatory safety requirements. All Riders MUST wear long sleeves, long pants and a full face helmet.

We had some young guns out on the track this morning ripping through the course and doing stylish airs over the jumps just as the sun was coming up. Ahhhh, what a way to start your day!

On Saturday, Nov 21st at the Kearny Moto Park, there will be a Fundraiser for Erin Schaefer who is a 7 year old BMX that was ranked top in her field before she was diagnosed with cancer.

Holly's KUSI News 'Action Sports Report' was at the Embarcadero in San Diego where she talked with Brent Teal and Bryan Pate, the creator's of the World's First outdoor Elliptical bicycle, called the ElliptiGO.

Brent and Bryan came up with the idea over 4 years ago since Bryan had incurred many injuries due to the hard impact from running and doing triathlon's. Since Bryan is an athlete and Brent is an engineer, they decided to put their minds together and create a fun, low impact alternative to going indoors to the gym and doing aerobic exercise with being outside and enjoying the sunshine and fresh air.

The surf is "TOTALLY UP" today! Swami's World-Class waves and location made it a great place to be this morning as it was packed at the crack of dawn with big and beautiful sets coming in.

Holly's KUSI News 'Action Sports Report' this morning not only had big waves, but there is also a big debate going on as to whether the 'Women's World Longboard Championship' contest should be held here in Oct. 2010. The community believes the large crowds, the negative environmental impact to the reef and delicate sandstone bluff, and the fact that local surfers would be banished from the break on those days, are all reasons the contest shouldn't be allowed.

Holly's KUSI News 'Action Sports Report' this morning was at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas where she talked about the small surf which is good for small people. If you lived in Hawaii you would the small people in your life menehune's!

For all the menehune's in your life, we featured a really sweet bedtime story book called 'Surf Angel'. The book is about the young and playful Surf Angel, who ensures a safe night's sleep to all of her ocean friends, and brings children closer to the magical wonders of the sea! Included with each book is an audio CD, lovingly narrated by Surfing Legend and the Original Gidget, Kathy Kohner Zuckerman.

She talked with him about how he's helping At-Risk Kids and giving back to the youth. It was super fun to see people cream each other at Dodgeball for a good cause too!

9/19-20/09 - GRO (Girls Riders Organization) put on a clinic to teach girls how to skate from 9-12pm. In the afternoon, 'Wicked Wahine' put on a Street Skateboard Contest to showcase up and coming skateboarders at the Etnies Skate Park in Lake Forest, CA.

It's fun to the next generation out there ripping it up and really cool to see how GRO and Wicked Wahine are helping girls get more involved. :-)

This was the first Women in Action Sports Event put on by ZEX Sports at Swiv Tackle Circus Gallery in Oceanside. There were 6 females including Holly Lyons as a Pro Skater and Entrepreneur who spoke on the board about being in a women in action sports and running our own companies.

Holly Lyons was sweet enough to answer some questions from Sabreena. Check out what they had to say.

What/Who got you started skateboarding? I got into skating when I was a teenager. My sister was friends with these pro skaters, so we would go and watch them at a mini ramp at this one guys house. I thought it was so beautiful and I have never been one to just sit and watch. I started dating one of the guys and he hooked me up with a skateboard and some t-shirts.

Who do you look up to in the skateboarding world? I look up to Chris Miller a lot. He owns a successful company, Planet Earth and Adio. He's a really good person, a great husband and father. He is also the smoothest and most graceful skater I have ever seen. It's always fun to skate with Chris.

How long do you skateboard in a day? Depends, generally for a couple of hours.

What injuries have you sustained? Many....I just had reconstructive surgery on my wrist, I have torn my mcl on both knees, my left knee twice. I tore my acl snowboarding and had surgery, and was also knocked out for 10 minutes and had a contusion in my brain. That was scary, my mind was skipping a lot for quite a while. I have broken bones in both hands, chronic back pain which is a lot better due to chiropractic work, yoga and exercise. I have had so many cuts, bruises and scrapes I wouldn't know where to start It's funny, but they were all worth it at the time and I don't have any regrets because I learned a lot from every incident.

What advice can you give to teen girls about their futures? Well, everybody is different. Skateboarding is getting bigger and better and there are so more girls skating than ever, which is so cool. I think if you love to skate then skate. If you are skating because you want to be sponsored or get free stuff then you are in it for the wrong reasons. It takes a certain kind of person to be able to withstand the injuries and keep going forward. You have to be tough because no matter who you are, you will get hurt. This also is the same with love, life, relationships or whatever. There will be the ups and the downs. Wise teachers say "It doesn't matter what happens to you, it's how you react to it." When something happens it just is, it is your response that determines if something is "good" or "bad". So, you have to skate because you just can't image not skating. That's how it's been for me and trust me it's been a colorful journey to say the least :-)

What is the future of Sk8Grl? Hopefully we will keep growing and making a positive difference for girls in skateboarding and in life. We are all about inspiring and empowering girls to believe in them self, go for it, and know they can always stay feminine and be strong! We aspire to be the ROXY of girls skateboarding and be sold worldwide. We want to have a very interactive website where girls can become friends and find out about each other, have girls design shirts and vote on the designs, then have them made and pay them a royalty. We want every girl to be part of the company itself through design projects like that and more. We want every girl to be part of the Sk8Grl world and know that their voice counts and that they can be anything they set their mind to. We want Sk8Grl to be the girls voice in skating!

recovery from surgery

So, I had reconstructive surgery on my left wrist. I had completely severed the tendon below my thumb. How does one do that? Well, I was skating the combi bowl in Orange, back in May and fell on my wrist. I then thought I spran it so I was just going to wrap it up the next day. After I wrapped it, I moved my wrist around and felt a pop and all of the sudden, the top joint of my left thumb was permanently bent.
My philosophy about a lot of injuries has been...."If I ignore it, it will go away". Sometimes it does, other times, I actually have to goto the Dr. I tried my jedi mind tricks on my wrist to heal the injury, but after I got an MRI the Dr. said it didn't matter how I tried to heal myself, the tendon was completely severed and there was no way a connection could have been made.
I had waited a few weeks after the injury even to get looked at, because again I thought I could heal myself. After I got the MRI but before I found out the results, I was flown to Ohio to be on an episode of MTV MADE. I now had to wait for over 6 more weeks before I could get surgery.
If any of you saw the MTV MADE episode you know there was a lot of emotions coming from the Mother and Alex, the girl I was coaching. For almost 3 weeks I didn't mind that Alex cried. I mean she cried on the treadmill, she cried doing push ups, she cried when the wind blew a certain way. The pain in my arm started to escalate and this 15 year old girl was anything but into actually skating.
Two different days the Mom went off on me, but they knew how much I needed surgery yet I was in Ohio and unable to do it, so I was trying to make the best of the situation.
MTV really cut and spiced that show and showed things out of context. Whatever, that's Reality TV I guess. Anyways, after I got back and had surgery at the end of July, I am finally feeling 100%. Physical injuries for me also really affect me emotionally and spiritually. I did not feel like myself for a couple of months. Wow, but I sure have learned a lot though. My mind went through emotional boot camp tearing my thoughts to the ground and rebuilding. It was really painful and I wouldn't wish what I went through on my worst enemy. Luckily it only lasted a short but very intense time. I finally stopped spiraling out of control when I totalled my car in traffic in LA on Oct. 8. HI, wake up call....
It never seemed like it really happened. Very surreal. Luckily I am o.k., my Chihuahua Rerun is o.k., and the girl I rear ended is o.k., my car's air bags blew and the the radiator was all over and they said my car was a gonner. I now had 30 days in a rental car to find a new one. This was a major wake up call to start thinking differently.
I had a car in mind and a price so now it was my mission to let go and know the right car is there. It came to me in a vision what my car was to be. A Honda CR-V. I had never thought of that car before, but that's what I saw and so now I was looking for one. I have two great friends who went with me on different days. I went to San Diego, Orange County, El Cajon, and LA. Some days, I knew it was just a fun day of connecting with my friend. I made lots of phone calls, but could tell as I was doing it, that they weren't the right car. I believe it was good to stay in momentum, but I didn't let myself feel the pressure of the days counting down. I new that before the 30 days were up, I would have the most perfect CR-V. My vision saw it being white, yet on the 30th day in Covina, LA. there is was. A shiny bright sliver Honda CR-V in perfect condition. It had one owner and is incredibly clean on the inside and out. They had originally wanted $8,000 more than what I paid. YES!!! I had a certain amount to spend and I was $6.00 shy on the amount. I wanted to pocket a couple thousand, although with taxes I paid a little over a $1,000 yet it is sooooo worth it.
I love my new car! Life is a really crazy dream that's for sure. Here are some photos of my wrist and my new car. I had faith and didn't stress, and the car is better than I had imagined.

August 10, 2008 - So, I went to Ohio to teach a girl to skateboard. At least, that's what I thought. Little did I know I had a lot more in store. For all of you that has seen the show, thank you for all the messages you have sent me on myspace. Yes, the Mom was a bit much, and Alex cried a lot, but I still had a fun time and took a lot from the experience.

I was in rural Ohio for 5 weeks and she went to camp for a week. So, it was a total of 6 weeks I had to transform her into a skateboarder.

Obviously, she did not learn a lot on her skateboard, but I really do think she learned a lot about herself and her relationship with her Mom. She is not someone who is athletic but I still have never seen someone who resisted learning as much as she did. It was like she was doing the exact opposite of learning. She would shut down everyday, make an excuse up and then cry. I feel for her, it will not get her far in life or in achieving her goals with that mentality.

I feel like this was more of an experiment in human behavior, action and reaction, than it was in teaching a girl to ride a skateboard properly. I do think by the end of the 6 weeks Alex grew so much as a person. As someone that was thinking for herself, realizing she has a self, believing in herself, and learning to do what's best for her. Which are all traits to being a skateboarder.

So, I am proud of Alex and I am happy that I was there to have that experience with her, with Jill the producer/filmer, Jessica the other filmer and her Mom. I think whether her Mom knows it or not now, she will learn a lot from the experience we had together and hopefully can take the good from it.

Pro Skateboarder Holly Lyons was sent from Sunny Southern California to rural Tipp City, OH teach a girl how to skateboard for MTV'S Made. Alex Mills is an academic, clumsy girl who had to stay home from school for a year due to allergies. She watched the Rob and Big show and dreamed of becoming a skateboard star. Little did she know, skateboarding was a lot more difficult that she thought. Not only physically, but mentally, and spiritually.

Check out MTV's Made on August 10, 2008 to see Alex Mills transform from being a Mama's girl who has her schedule laid out for her and little drive to do anything, to a living in the moment skate girl! She learns about believing in herself, having confidence, being independent, and doing what's right for her; which is what skateboarding is all about! Both girls rocked Sk8Grl tops and had lots of Sk8Grl stickers on their boards and helmets.

Supergirl Jam video from Explorer Girls

S3 Supergirl Jam, Huntington Beach, CA, July 27 – Day Three wraps up an amazing weekend at the Supergirl Jam in Huntington Beach. It’s been an action-packed three days with the best female athletes pushing the limits and setting the bar in competitive skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding.

There was sweat, blood and possibly a few tears after over 100 of the world’s best tore it up across the many venues set up on the sand around Huntington Beach’s pier. Girls performed their best tricks in the ocean, the skateboarding bowl, street park, vert ramp and rail jam.

Where else in the world can you witness an all-female assault from so many talented women in different action sports in one place. I can’t think of another female dedicated event quite like it.

The S3 Supergirl Jam, only in its second year running, is proving to be a huge success drawing out crowds in the thousands. And, the crowd was a mix of all types, young and old, male and female. This year’s event also ran along side the U.S. Open of Surfing showcasing big talent in the water.

I went the day after I had surgery and was on a lot of pain killers. It's hard to watch and not get to skate when that's all you know. I severed a tendon in my wrist from a skating accident and had to have reconstructive surgery. FUN!!!!

Explorer Girls interviewed me after a couple minutes of skating. It was a great event. Warner Bros. ROCKS and Sk8Grl made the event t-shirts for the third Supergirl event in a row.

Zannel interviewed me at the Supergirl Jam/US OPEN. They are a mobile media blog, where you can post picture, video, or text updates from your phone as you’re out and about so fans can follow what you’re up to, and even follow you and leave you comments. There are Zannel widgets on Facebook and Myspace pages so they get updated with posts automatically but could just as easily embed the widget code on a website.

Sk8Grl donates to Ross school fundraiser in the Hamptons

Ross School is pleased to announce that its Fifth Annual Starlight Ball, scheduled for Saturday, May 17, at 6:30 p.m., will be a special concert gala with entertainment by Chic featuring Nile Rodgers. This important benefit raises money for the Steven J. Ross Scholarship Fund, which currently enables 46 percent of Ross School students to receive some form of financial aid.

Sk8Grl tops and posters were placed in a black Paulpac bag which had been donated and went for $200.00!

ESPN Decides to Continue Vert Competitions at This Year's X Games

Skateboarding has spoken, and vert stays!

ESPN has decided to continue its 13-year tradition of vert competitions at this year's X Games. Over the past month ESPN has engaged in many conversations with the X Games BMX and Skateboard vert athletes in an attempt to transition the Vert discipline into one featuring a skatepark course design. While many athletes were initially receptive to the idea, the majority of them have indicated to ESPN that they would prefer to compete on a halfpipe.

ESPN will also continue its plans to hold SuperPark as a new discipline for skateboarding and BMX at the X Games while working with the athletes to better define exactly how the SuperPark course will be designed.

Tony Hawk invented more than 80 tricks. I'm not sure I can even count that high.

On April 3, ESPN announced the biggest event shakeup since the inception of the X Games. As of this summer, vert, the oldest discipline in the Games, is out, and a new "SuperPark"-type discipline is in for the 14th year of competition.

"It's time. It's been time. ESPN's always a little slow on the uptake. It's no secret that the vert field has stayed the same for the last decade. It's no secret that there aren't any vert ramps for kids to ride outside Southern California. If you want a vert career, you have to move there," says X Games General Manager Chris Stiepock.

Vert's dead. Again. It's just that this time, it's the X Games that say so.

On Saturday the 15th of December 2007 Amee Jay Paplelra set a new women's world skateboarding high jump record of 40 inches (101cm) at the 2007 SPAUSA Women's World Record Sk8Fest. She also won the Open High Jump contest and became the 2007 SPAUSA/WFSA Women's Skateboarding High Jump World Champion for the second year in a row.

Then just for fun she set a first time ever women's world ramp skateboarding record by doing 16 consecutive fakie Smith stalls.

Everyone had a great time watching the contest, enjoing the excitement of seeing records being set, drinking Kronik Energy drinks and listening to the raw blast of Ben Farquar's Lenins Landlord punk band.

Thanks to Amee Jay for her great sportsmanship pioneering women's ramp world records. We hope to see more women's skateboarding world records set at next years event.

November 29, 2007 - Cool Girl Skateboards graced the cover of LA Times Business section with a business makeover. Also on the hard copy wan an action photo of Cool Girl and Sk8*Grl team pro Holly Lyons.

It is a great article promoting girls' skateboarding and mentioned how Sk8Grl sold 3,000 units to 100 stores in the month of November, its first, without any advance marketing.
